Taman Belle Hill landslide, retaining wall to be built to prevent recurrence

BINTULU: The recent landslide in Taman Belle Hill here has caused damages to several homes that raised concerns among local residents.

Bintulu Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, said he received complaints from residents about the incident and immediately took action.

“I immediately ordered my special officer to inspect the location and discuss with relevant agencies and the developer to ensure the safety of the residents is guaranteed.

“This morning, a visit to the location was done by the officers from the Bintulu District Office, Bintulu Public Works Department (JKR), and Bintulu Development Authority (BDA),” he said in a statement on his Facebook yesterday.

Elaborating further, Tiong informed that the inspection found that the landslide occurred near a new housing project located next to an existing housing area.

“As a result of the discussion, the relevant parties have agreed to building a retaining wall to prevent the landslide from recurring.

“The appointed consulting firm will monitor the construction process of this retaining wall to ensure that it can prevent further landslides,” he said.

He added that the developer’s consultant is also required to submit a safety design plan to BDA for approval before the construction project can proceed.

“To assist the affected residents, the developer of the new housing project has also agreed to repair the damage suffered by the affected homeowners as a result of the incident.

“I will continue to monitor the development of this case through periodic reports to ensure that the resolution measures are implemented effectively,” he stressed.

He also urged all parties involved to expedite action so that the residents can return to enjoying a safe and stable environment as soon as possible.

In the meantime, Tiong advised the affected residents to contact the local authorities for further information and any latest development on the recovery efforts in their areas.
