KUCHING: Tambirat Academy booked a memorable victory in the Petronas Youth Football Closed Tournament 2025 (Under-12) after edging out Cascara Junior in a dramatic 6–5 penalty shootout, following a goalless draw in regulation time.

The final played in intense energy and competitive spirit, the match showcased tactical discipline from both sides, with Tambirat ultimately holding their nerve in front of goal when it mattered most.

Tambirat Academy coach Mohd Iskandar said the victory was the result of two months of focused preparation and unwavering team belief.

“After the Milo tournament earlier this year, we immediately shifted our focus to preparing for this Petronas league. The boys have worked hard and followed instructions closely,” said Iskandar to Sarawak Tribune.

Despite facing tournament favourites Cascara Junior, known for their structured play and quality squad, Tambirat remained composed throughout the match.

“I told the players the score is 0–0 and everything is still possible. We just needed to stay focused. I reminded them that although Cascara are strong, we’ve studied them from our previous friendly match,” he added.

The tightly contested encounter saw both sides testing each other’s defences but unable to break the deadlock during regulation time.

In the end, it was Tambirat’s composure during the penalties that sealed their progression.

With their solid defensive organisation and resilience, Tambirat now emerge as serious contenders in the tournament.

Coach Iskandar expressed hope that this momentum would continue to drive his young squad forward in the remaining fixtures.

“This result showed that the players were able to follow instructions at this level — they definitely showed that belief and preparation can overcome any challenge.”

The Petronas Youth Football Closed Tournament 2025 continues to provide a platform for emerging grassroots footballers to shine, with Tambirat Academy now firmly in the spotlight after their inspired display.
