KOTA KINABALU, Sabah: The construction of ‘Tamu Desa’ (Rural Market) premises is a manifestation of the federal government’s commitment to empower micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), especially at the village level throughout the state, said Sabah Deputy Chief Minister III, Datuk Ewon Benedick.
Ewon, who is also Sabah Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Transport, said that among the facilities developed, including at the Kampung Ramayah Tamu Desa in Penampang near here, were the result of the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives’ (KUSKOP) implementation last year.
“‘Tamu Desa’ was among the facilities requested by the village leaders when I was leading KUSKOP. The ‘tamu’ in this village is held every Saturday, managed by the Kampung Ramayah Neighbourhood Watch Committee (KRT), and has been fully utilised by local small business owners for sales activities.
“This development proves the ease provided by the government in line with the real needs of micro and small entrepreneurs at the village level,” he said in a statement today.

Ewon also said his ministry’s priority is to empower MSMEs as one of the main drivers of the state’s economy.
“The transport portfolio under my ministry focuses on logistics aspects, involving three agencies that were previously under the Sabah Ministry of Public Works, namely the Sabah Ports Authority, Sabah State Railway Department and Sabah Ports and Harbours Department,” he added. – BERNAMA
