KUCHING: National shuttlers, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, capped a resurgent campaign with another standout performance, clinching the Australian Open (Super 500) crown after a confident 21-16, 21-11 win over Indonesia’s Jafar Hidayatullah–Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu in Sunday’s final.

The victory adds to what has been a remarkable year for the world no. 4 mixed doubles pair, who earlier stunned the badminton world by lifting the World Championships title, a breakthrough achievement that cemented their status among the sport’s elite.

But the road between those highs was not without turbulence.

A temporary setback earlier this season, marked by inconsistency, disrupted momentum and a brief dip in form — forced the national pair to recalibrate. Instead of derailing their progress, the setback fuelled a renewed push.

That resolve was evident in Sydney. Tang Jie and Ee Wei played with authority throughout the final, displaying crisp rotation, measured aggression and a level of composure that has become their trademark.

Ee Wei’s sharp front-court control and Tang Jie’s steady orchestration from the back gave Malaysia the edge in both closing stretches.

The title, their first Super Tour triumph of the year, arrives at the perfect moment.

More importantly, it secures their slot at the prestigious BWF World Tour Finals, the exclusive year-end showdown featuring only the season’s best performers.

With momentum firmly restored and confidence running high, Tang Jie and Ee Wei now head to the Finals with a clear mission, to finish a milestone year with one last major statement.
