KUCHING: Malaysia’s top mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, advanced to the semi-finals of the Japan Open 2025 after defeating home pair Yuichi Shimogami and Sayaka Hobara in straight games today.

The world No. 4 duo took only 32 minutes to secure a 21-14, 21-12 win at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, maintaining consistent pressure and composure throughout the match.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei dominated proceedings with better control at the net and faster transitions, leaving little room for the Japanese pair to mount a response.

The win marks their third World Tour semi-final appearance this season, and keeps them in contention for a maiden Japan Open title.

They are set to face China’s Jiang Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin tomorrow (Saturday, July 20) – following their 21-13, 23-21 set wins against Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai earlier.

Malaysia last lifted the mixed doubles title at the Japan Open in 2012.

Meanwhile, in women’s doubles news, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah took 54 minutes to win over South Korea’s Jeong Na Eun-Lee Yeon Woo in 21-15, 21-19 straight games.
