KUCHING: Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei have ended Malaysia’s 19-year wait for a mixed doubles medal at the BWF World Championships after storming into the semi-finals in Paris on Friday.

The fourth seeds powered past India’s Dhruv Kapila–Tanisha Crasto 21-15, 21-13 in just 37 minutes at the Adidas Arena to guarantee themselves at least a bronze medal.

Though briefly unsettled in the early rallies, Tang Jie–Ee Wei quickly shifted gears, dictating the pace and stamping their dominance.

The Malaysian duo will now face France’s world No. 8 pair Thom Gicquel–Delphine Delrue in Saturday’s (Aug 30) semi-final, with a place in the final — and potentially a shot at gold — on the line.

Their achievement makes them the first Malaysian mixed doubles medal winners since Koo Kien Keat–Wong Pei Tty clinched bronze in Madrid in 2006.

In other mixed doubles action, Hoo Pang Ron–Cheng Su Yin exited the campaign after a gritty 23-25, 21-15 defeat to China’s Jiang Zhenbang–Wei Yaxin
