First Malaysians to win Indonesia Masters mixed doubles champion title

KUCHING: Under the lights of Istora Senayan, Malaysian badminton made a statement as world champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei fought back to claim the Indonesia Masters mixed doubles crown today.

Facing Denmark’s world No. 10 pairing Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje, the world No. 4 Malaysians lost the first game 15-21 but gradually found their rhythm, taking the next two 21-17, 21-11 in a 56-minute contest.

The victory marked Tang Jie–Ee Wei’s fifth World Tour title and their first Indonesia Masters crown, making them the first Malaysian mixed doubles pair to lift the trophy since the tournament began in 2010.

It also avenged last year’s Macau Open semi-final defeat, leveling their head-to-head record with the Danes at 2-2.

Earlier, Malaysia celebrated another triumph when world No. 2 Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah were declared women’s doubles champions following a walkover by Japan’s Arisa Igarashi and Miyu Takahashi.

The twin victories underline Malaysia’s rising prominence on the international stage.

For Tang Jie and Ee Wei, Jakarta represents more than a title – it signals resilience, ambition, and momentum in their World Tours journey from here and out.
