KUCHING: The 7th Sarawak Tang Soo Do Championship 2026 is helping shape disciplined, resilient and well-rounded youths while providing a platform to nurture the next generation of martial arts talent in the state.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin said events such as the championship go beyond competition by promoting positive values, physical fitness and mental resilience among young people.

“Events of this nature are vital for instilling discipline, sportsmanship and physical fitness among young people.

“Tang Soo Do is more than just a competitive sport, it is an effective way to build character and strengthen mental resilience,” he said when officiating at the opening of the championship at the 7th Mile Chamber of Commerce Hall on Monday (July 13).

Yap said he would continue supporting youth and sports development by working closely with local sports associations to create more opportunities for young people to grow and excel.

He also encouraged participants to carry the discipline cultivated through martial arts into their everyday lives while continuing to pursue knowledge and maintain healthy lifestyles.

“With solid knowledge and good health, our youth can truly contribute to the progress and development of Sarawak,” he said.

The championship, organised by the Sarawak Samarahan Tang Soo Do Association, drew participants from several divisions across the state.

Besides promoting Tang Soo Do, the annual event also seeks to encourage more youths to embrace active and healthy lifestyles.
