KOTA SAMARAHAN: The design for the development of the deep sea port project in Tanjung Embang is in its final stage, said Sarawak Premier, Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He added that the mega project, which is part of the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR), has also received support from Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, following its presentation at a state development briefing held at Wisma Bapa yesterday.

“Yesterday, I presented the master plan (design) for the deep sea port platform to the Prime Minister.

“There might not be many changes moving forward, as the plan is already quite concrete,” he said.

“I would like to thank the Prime Minister for agreeing to our proposal to develop the SGR, which will have a significant impact on our economy in the next five years,” he said.

He was met by reporters at the Aidilfitri Open House, organised by Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister, Datuk Rubiah Wang, here today.

Elaborating further, he said that Sarawak is open to the federal government providing additional funding for the project, although the state government already has its own allocation and plans, in collaboration with the private sector.

Abang Johari said during the briefing, the federal government also agreed to provide incentives to the Development Bank of Sarawak (DBOS) to support the state government’s efforts in developing infrastructure.

Yesterday, Federal Government Chief Secretary, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, shared on his Facebook page that the federal government pledged support for Sarawak’s plan to implement the SGR, which is the main driver of the state’s economic growth.

According to Shamsul Azri, the implementation of this high-impact plan is expected to attract investments worth up to RM300 billion, and create more than 180,000 new job opportunities for Sarawakians. – BERNAMA
