KUCHING: Landowners in the Tanjung Embang area are advised not to hastily sell their land, especially with a major government development project set to take place in the area.
Santubong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri cautioned the local community to consider the long-term impact of selling their land now, as the project will include compensation for affected landowners.
“However, we do not want certain parties to take advantage of the situation, leading local residents to decide to sell their land.
“This is important because when the government project is implemented, compensation will certainly be provided to the landowners involved,” she said.
Nancy said this when met by reporters at Mydin Vista Tunku in conjunction with Juh Shopping Raya organised by Yayasan Pekema here today (Mar 16).
She urged landowners to exercise patience and carefully weigh their decisions before agreeing to sell.
“As the people’s representative for the area, I am simply advising them to be patient. Do not sell immediately if someone wants to buy the land.
“These buyers are aware that the area will be developed by the government, which means land prices will rise. Therefore, land transactions at this moment need to be carefully considered,” she said.
For the record, the Tanjung Embang area, under the Demak Laut constituency, is also the location for the construction of the new Kuching International Airport.
Spanning 15,000 hectares, Tanjung Embang is home to seven villages: Kampung Beradek, Kampung Semilang, Kampung Beradek Cina, Kampung Tiang Api, Kampung Sungai Pinang, Kampung Sungai Tanju, and Kampung Beliong. This area is close to the Demak Laut Commercial Center and the city of Kuching.
Transportation access to the city center is expected to improve once the Sejingkat Bridge to Tanjung Bako is completed.
