SIBU: Sarawak’s pineapple industry is gearing up for a significant transformation, with Tanjung Manis set to emerge as a major production and export hub, fuelled by strong foreign investor interest.
JG Sarava Sdn Bhd (JGS) Managing Director, Datuk Jeyarajan Sri Ramalu, announced ambitious plans to establish a modern pineapple processing facility in Tanjung Manis, a move expected to revolutionise the state’s agricultural sector.

“Once operational, the factory will provide a direct market for pineapple growers from across Sarawak, from Kuching to Limbang,” he said during a press conference after a project briefing with potential investors today.
“No longer will farmers have to depend solely on roadside stalls or supermarket sales. They’ll just need to deliver their produce to Tanjung Manis. We’ll handle the rest.”
At present, Sarawak produces only about 15 tonnes of pineapples daily, well below the 50 tonnes needed by the company. But Jeyarajan views this as an opportunity rather than a limitation.
“This is the right time to invest in pineapple farming. Within one to two years, I believe Sarawak can surpass Peninsular Malaysia in pineapple production,” he said confidently.
He also revealed that JGS has secured a RM1 billion investment from a prominent Indian investor to support the project.
“The delegation was briefed today, and their response has been very positive. They will visit the site in Tanjung Manis soon to witness our plans firsthand,” he added.
Jeyarajan credited the improved logistics made possible by the Pan Borneo Highway as a key enabler for the project’s success.
“With enhanced connectivity, transporting pineapples and related goods is now faster, more efficient, and cost-effective. This infrastructure is vital to the industry’s growth,” he said.
With investor confidence growing and infrastructure in place, Tanjung Manis is well on its way to becoming the region’s pineapple capital.
