KUALA LUMPUR: Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) further strengthened its standing as a leading institution in professional excellence after its students swept top honours at the national-level 2025 Deloitte Tax Challenge and the 2025 Deloitte Audit Business Challenge.
In the Deloitte Tax Challenge, TAR UMT students emerged champions in both the individual and team categories.
Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) graduate Ng Yew Sheng clinched the Champion and Best Presenter titles in the individual category, while Lim Li Yuin and Karanjot Singh secured the Merit Prize.
The champion team comprised Ng, Lim, Koh Ching Nghi and Genevere Foo Wen Shun, with Yew and Koh also awarded Best Presenter titles.
Following the national victory, Ng will represent Malaysia in both the individual and team categories at the regional level, while Koh will compete in the team category.
Reflecting on his achievement, Ng attributed his success to rigorous preparation, strong discipline and continuous guidance from his lecturers.


“I must highlight the dedication of my lecturers, Michael Yeo Thiam Swee and Suzzanne Poh Shuh Chen, who journeyed with me from my very first competition. Their commitment has been a big contributing factor to my success,” he said.
Koh described the team’s victory as unexpected, noting that the group was newly formed despite members having previously crossed paths in other competitions.
“We came together with the approval of our lecturer, who recognised each of our strengths. We started with online discussions before moving to physical meetings,
“Having everyone present allowed us to dive deeper into complex topics and strengthened our teamwork,” she said, adding that the team’s synergy and enthusiasm played a key role in their success.
Meanwhile, TAR UMT also emerged champion in the 2025 Deloitte Audit Business Challenge, with the winning team comprising Quek Wan Qi, Bryan Sim Myng Roong and Ong Lay Hong.
Bryan described the win as an extremely rewarding experience, crediting the team’s strong foundation in auditing and financial reporting.
“Our knowledge helped us analyse real-world scenarios, while teamwork ensured we stayed coordinated and confident throughout the competition,” he said.
He explained that his role focused on audit procedures and review, complemented by his teammates’ strengths in technical analysis and presentation.
“One of the most memorable challenges involved identifying key audit focus areas and proposing appropriate audit adjustments,” he said.
He added that it required strong professional judgement and technical expertise, making the experience both challenging and energising.
