SERIAN: A special task force for the Tebedu District Disaster Operations on Landslides and Flooding has been established to ensure stricter control over areas affected by floods and landslides.

Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada said the task force was formed through collaboration between his office, the district office, and all village chiefs and community leaders in the affected areas.

“As of today (Jan 31), a total of 29 locations and residential areas have been identified as experiencing landslides.

“Therefore, our service centre has coordinated with the district office to establish the Tebedu District Disaster Operations Task Force.

“In Tebedu, there are 59 village chiefs, and we maintain communication through WhatsApp to ensure all disaster-related data is collected and relayed as quickly as possible,” he said when met by reporters after visiting the temporary relief centre (PPS) at the Serian Community Hall here.

He also confirmed that the road in Kampung Tepoi might be cut off due to a landslide.

Repair efforts have already been initiated, with assistance requested from the Public Works Department (PWD) to continuously monitor the affected locations.

At the same time, he urged contractors to assist homes impacted by the landslides.

“This is one of our own initiatives because we do not want to wait and risk delays in response. Therefore, we are taking immediate action ourselves,” he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the areas in Tebedu affected by floods, Dr Simon said that two villages — Kampung Krusen and Kampung Mentu — have been impacted.

He noted that 15 families were affected by the flooding in these villages. However, they were not relocated to the PPS as the water levels did not rise severely.
