GEDONG: A special task force has been established to expedite the implementation of development projects worth RM2.8 billion in the Gedong area.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the committee would be headed by Infrastructure Development Deputy Minister Datuk Aidel Lariwoo to coordinate and monitor the projects’ progress.
He said the task force would focus on three key infrastructure projects, namely the Serian–Gedong–Samarahan Highway, the proposed upgrading of the existing Jalan Gedong–Simunjan, and the proposed Jalan Gedong–Semalatong.
“The Public Works Department (JKR) and the Ministry for Infrastructure and Port Development are closely monitoring the project to ensure it is completed on time, as expected by the Premier. That is our commitment, which is why we are consistently on the ground.

“We have also directed the special task force to hold monthly meetings to oversee the project’s progress, with reports submitted to me every two months, as this is a critical project that must be completed as planned.
“It has always been our policy to monitor projects closely, which is why you will continue to see us regularly on the ground,” said the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development.
He told the media this when visiting the Serian–Gedong–Samarahan Highway project site here today.
The Serian–Gedong–Samarahan Highway comprises five construction sections and will be developed as a dual carriageway with a total length of 45.65 kilometres, at an estimated cost of RM1.88 billion.
The stretch leading towards Gedong has been planned to accommodate future infrastructure, including a dedicated Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) lane, bicycle tracks, a utility corridor and bridges.
Meanwhile, the proposed upgrading of the existing Jalan Gedong–Simunjan will be implemented in two packages. The project involves upgrading the road into a dual carriageway over a distance of 20.6 kilometres, at an estimated cost of RM556.33 million.
The proposed Jalan Gedong–Semalatong project will be carried out in three packages, covering a total length of 57.45 kilometres, at an estimated cost of RM378.81 million.
