KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) councillor Eric Tay Tze Kok has distributed mooncakes to residents and traders at Padungan, Tower Market and the Open Air Market in conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival today (Oct 4).
The programme, held together with community leaders and the Padungan Merchant Association, was carried out as part of a mobile service session despite light rain in the morning.
“What we share today is more than just mooncakes. It is a gesture of care, a blessing, and a reminder of the bonds that tie us together as a community.
“The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important celebrations in Chinese culture, symbolising reunion, harmony, and togetherness. No matter where we are, the bright full moon connects families across distances, reminding us of the love and warmth of home,” Tay said in a statement.
He also expressed gratitude to the Padungan Merchant Association for assisting in distributing mooncakes to traders and residents, noting that their support helps strengthen community unity.
“The Mid-Autumn Festival is not only a cultural celebration but also a heritage that must never be forgotten.
“May every resident, under the full moon tonight, enjoy precious moments of joy with their loved ones and feel the warmth of family. My greatest wish is for our society to continue growing in love, harmony, and solidarity,” he added.
Tay also extended festive greetings to the public, wishing them peace and happiness as they celebrated the occasion.
“Happy Mid-Autumn Festival. May your homes be filled with happiness, your families with love, and your lives with peace and prosperity.”
