KUCHING: Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) hosted its Premier Iftar Gathering on Sunday (Mar 8) as part of the Kasih Ramadan Programme, in a heartfelt celebration honouring underprivileged recipients during the blessed month of Ramadan.

At the event, TBS General Manager Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie officially presented financial assistance totalling RM160,500 to 550 beneficiaries and 29 Tahfiz Centres.

The distribution forms part of TBS’s wider Kasih Ramadan Programme, which aims to disburse RM2.53 million in aid to 9,140 recipients across Sarawak. Beneficiaries include heads of household and their dependants registered under the TBS Sarahidup Assistance Scheme, as well as Tahfiz Centres and their students.

In addition to Ramadan aid, TBS has begun distributing Aidilfitri financial assistance amounting to RM960,300 to help asnaf recipients prepare for the upcoming celebrations. Funds are credited directly into recipients’ bank accounts, with a portion provided in cash for those without banking access.

During the ceremony, Abang Mohd Shibli encouraged the Muslim community to promptly fulfil their Zakat Fitrah obligations through any of the 780 appointed amil officers stationed throughout Sarawak. Those with the means are also urged to pay Zakat Harta at the nearest TBS office or via the Baitulmal Kamek online portal.

Zakat Harta payments can also be made through TBS-appointed collection agents, including Public Bank, CIMB Bank, Bank Muamalat, Pos Malaysia, Maybank, Affin Bank, Agro Bank, Bank Islam, Bank Rakyat, MYEG, and Tulus.

As of 31 January, TBS had disbursed a total of RM9.93 million to eligible asnaf recipients throughout Sarawak under its four flagship programmes:

  • Strengthening the Tradition of Knowledge Programme
  • Development of Islamic Institutions Programme
  • Strengthening of Community Welfare Programme
  • Community Skills Enhancement Programme

Also present at the gathering were TBS Deputy General Manager Iskandar Allan, along with various sector heads and staff.
