KUCHING: The involvement of civil servants and educators in the recent Ops Songsang raid in Chow Kit has intensified concern over the social and family fallout that cases of this scale leave behind.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said her ministry does not receive personal details of those detained, which makes it difficult to reach out directly to affected families.

She added that incidents of this nature often carry consequences beyond the individuals involved.

“This is not just a private matter. It has wider implications for social, moral and public health,” she said when asked about the raid.

Moreover, she said the presence of teachers among those detained was particularly troubling.

“It is very worrying. When I saw that teachers were involved, I wondered how they were going to teach the children. The numbers are really overwhelming.”

Nancy said counselling support remains available for anyone who seeks help, and the ministry protects the identity of those who come forward.

She noted that even senior figures have approached the ministry privately, often bringing their spouses as they try to repair their relationships.

She said the outcome often depends on whether individuals are willing to accept guidance.

“If they come to us and ask for help, we can assist. But sometimes they do not want to be helped.”

She added that others choose to seek assistance quietly, relying on the ministry’s discretion when dealing with sensitive family matters.

“Some do not want others to know their problems, but they trust us because we can protect their identity.

“That is why some even come directly to the office. They want to fix their situation, and we help where we can.”

On Nov 28, 17 civil servants were among 208 individuals arrested during a police raid on a health club in Chow Kit, believed to have been used for unnatural sexual activities.

During the operation, police seized condoms and several other items suspected to be used for immoral purposes.
