KUCHING: The Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) has called on all teachers to understand the importance of holistic education.

Its president Kullin Djayang urged educators to grasp the essence of holistic education in line with this year’s Teacher’s Day theme, “Guru Insani Pemangkin Generasi Madani.”

“Guru insani” refers to education that goes beyond intellectual development and encompasses physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being,” noted Kullin.

He further said the vital role of educators in shaping well-educated individuals who will lead the country.

“The realisation of students is a top priority in shaping a civilized generation,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

He also highlighted the message from the Director-General of Education Malaysia during this year’s Teacher’s Day Forum: “Let us prioritize character education for our children, and intelligence will follow; ABC: Anak Baik, lagi cerdik.”

Furthermore, Kullin explained that “Madani” signifies the formation of a society through the inculcation of pure family values, a curriculum that focuses on developing students’ attitudes and character, and the well-being of society as a whole.

Kullin encouraged all teachers in Sarawak to uphold the Education Ministry (MoE) tagline, “Murid Ceria, Guru Bahagia, Sekolah Bitara, dan Negara Sejahtera” (Happy Students, Happy Teachers, Excellent Schools, and a Prosperous Nation).
