MIRI: Minister for Transport, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, has paid tribute to teachers for their unwavering dedication and sacrifices in shaping future generations, describing educators as the silent force behind the success and character of society.
In conjunction with Teacher’s Day today (May 16), he said teachers play a far greater role than simply delivering lessons in classrooms, as they also nurture confidence, inspire hope, and guide students through life’s challenges.
“Teachers carry patience when students lose confidence, offer encouragement when dreams feel distant, and ignite hope when the world becomes difficult,” he said.
Lee, who is Senadin assemblyman, noted that while textbooks and examinations may eventually fade from memory, the kindness, guidance, and belief shown by teachers often remain deeply embedded in the hearts of their students for years to come.
He said behind every successful individual is often a teacher who recognised potential long before others did.
According to Lee, teachers impart values that go beyond mathematics, science, or language, including integrity, discipline, empathy, and resilience.
“They are the ones who stay back after class to explain lessons again, who restore courage after failure, and who teach the meaning of perseverance,” he said.
Lee also acknowledged the immense sacrifices made by teachers, describing the profession as one filled with long hours of preparation, endless commitment, and emotional resilience that frequently goes unnoticed.
Despite the demands of the profession, he said educators continue to serve selflessly, guiding generation after generation with knowledge and compassion.
“The impact of teachers cannot be measured by grades alone because they build character, shape dreams, and transform lives,” he added.
Lee thanked teachers for every lesson delivered with sincerity, every word of encouragement spoken with care, and every life touched through kindness and dedication.
He said the contributions of teachers may not always be immediately visible, but their influence would continue to resonate through the achievements, values, and humanity of their students.
On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, Lee expressed hope that all educators would receive the recognition and respect they truly deserve.
“The world becomes a better place because of teachers,” he said.
