SRI AMAN: Teachers across Sarawak have been encouraged to join the Sarawak Teachers Union (STU) to strengthen its collective voice in advocating for their rights and welfare.

STU President Kullin Djayang made the call during the Family Day event organised by the STU Sri Aman Division.

“As the largest teachers’ union in Sarawak, we highly value the participation of all educators in STU,” said Kullin.

“The union provides numerous facilities and welfare benefits for its members. More importantly, only through the union can we effectively negotiate with the government on matters such as the Teaching Service Scheme,” he said.

Without the involvement of new teachers, the union’s ability to represent the collective interests of educators would be weakened, he said.

He also noted that individual grievances or proposals made outside the union framework could expose teachers to disciplinary action.

To further encourage participation, Kullin urged teachers to obtain membership forms from school representatives or STU committee members in their respective divisions.

Membership inquiries can also be directed to STU headquarters in Kuching, Sibu, or Miri.

The Family Day event in Sri Aman saw enthusiastic participation from STU members and their families.

“It’s an opportunity to strengthen the bond among members and their families while fostering unity among teachers. We hope such initiatives will inspire others to join the union and take part in similar activities.”

The event was graced by the presence of former STU Sri Aman chairman Goh Kaw Sze, vice chairman Eileen Key, secretary Lee Nyuk Moi, and other top officials from the division.
