GEDONG: Team Komeng Sri Berjaya showcased their racing prowess on day one of the 2025 Gedong Regatta, storming to victory in multiple events, including the marquee 30-man paddler race (Heat A), as they staked their claim for the coveted ‘King of the River’ title.

Their formidable reputation was on full display at the regatta held on the Gedong River today, proving difficult to match.

The boat, owned by Zawawi Keri, dominated the headline event – the 30-man paddler race (Heat A) of the Sarawak Premier Cup (King of the River), covering the 3-kilometre course and outpacing 11 other competitors with a commanding lead.

The impressive win signals that the elite crew is well poised to challenge for the prestigious ‘King of the River Gedong 2025’ crown.

“Thankfully, we came out on top in this heat. Well done to all paddlers for their commitment,” said Zawawi when commenting on the performance.

He also expressed hope that his team can maintain peak form for the final race on Sunday (July 27), which is expected to be intense and dramatic.

Meanwhile, four other teams that put on strong performances in the same event were King Paddlers GT, Landas Azam Kasihnya Warisan 1, Landas Azam Kasihnya Warisan 2, and MRT Gedong.

Several other events were also held today, with wins mostly going to the tournament favourites.

In the final Gedong marathon distance, Bujang Sigat, emerged champion, with Team Komeng Sri Berjaya and King Paddlers GT finishing second and third respectively.

Team Komeng Sri Berjaya also topped the 10-man paddler race (Heat A), followed by Batak Lampong Gedong in second and Team Komeng in third.

The team continued their winning streak by clinching first place in the 25-man paddler race (Heat A) for the Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Naroden Majais Cup, beating Mahkota Dewa Gedong and Cahaya Arus Ibnur Sinar, who took second and third respectively.

Racing action continues on Saturday (July 26) with ten events scheduled from morning until evening, promising more thrills for spectators along the riverbanks of Gedong.
