KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin has highlighted the significant development milestones achieved in the constituency.
He credited the close collaboration between his office and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) as the driving force behind the progress through Rural Transformation Project (RTP).
Yap spoke to reporters after officiating at the Kota Sentosa Mile 7 Ramadan Bazaar 2026 near here on Saturday.
Yap pointed to Kota Sentosa Town Square as one of the most visible transformations in the area.
When he first assumed office as the Kota Sentosa assemblyman, the square was in a dilapidated state, lacking basic amenities such as toilets and a proper stage.

“The first RTP funding was RM500,000. What you see today — the toilets, the stage at the back — all of that has been done through that allocation,” he said.
The renovation has since turned the once-neglected square into a functional public space that serves the surrounding community, which became the venue for annual Ramadan bazaar.
Across the road from the square, the local market has also undergone a major overhaul.
Yap revealed that an initial RTP portion of RM400,000 has been fully utilised and the first phase of upgrading completed.
A further RM205,000 has since been allocated to continue the improvements, bringing the total investment in the market to over RM600,000.
Yap said that the results seen on the ground are the product of a structured working relationship between elected representatives and the local council and he urged the public to understand how this process works.
“As the people’s representative, our responsibility is to secure the funds. After we get the funds, we need to work together with the council. The council needs to come up with the quotations, define the scope and carry out the implementation,” he explained.
He stressed that this partnership between his office and MPP is what makes development possible in Kota Sentosa — and that neither party can deliver results alone.
“Without the council’s support, and without us working together, these projects would not be realised,” he said.
Yap also cited the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030, particularly its guiding principle that no one will be left behind as the framework underpinning all development efforts in the constituency.
The Kota Sentosa Mile 7 Ramadan Bazaar 2026 was organised by MPP in collaboration with Sarawak Hawkers and Traders Association and CCK Fresh Mart, bringing together 66 stalls this year to sell Ramadan delicacies and dishes to the community.
