KUCHING: A deep sense of sorrow enveloped Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak this morning (June 23) as people from all walks of life gathered to bid a heartfelt farewell to the late Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, wife of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
From early morning, dignitaries, civil servants, community leaders, and ordinary Sarawakians arrived at the mosque to pay their last respect during the funeral rites at 10 am.
The hearse carrying the late Juma’ani’s remains arrived at the mosque at around 10.13 am.



Abang Johari, who was accompanied by his children, grandchildren and close family members, was seen breaking down in tears in a heartbreaking moment.
During the final farewell, guests extended their condolences to Abang Johari, who remained visibly emotional as mourners approached him.
They later also joined the congregational solat jenazah (funeral prayer), led by mosque officials, as a final gesture of respect for the late Juma’ani.
Also in attendance were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Datuk Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas; State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom; Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah; Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn; Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai; and Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Law, MA63 and Federal-State Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

Also present were former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang; Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang; State Police Commissioner Datuk Manta Ata; Padungan assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen; and Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong.
After the funeral prayers, the hearse carrying Juma’ani remains arrived at the Semariang Muslim Cemetery around 1.25 pm.
It was escorted in a special vehicle and carried by officers from the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UPKS), before being lowered into the grave by the late Juma’ani’s children and grandchildren.
Juma’ani was laid to rest at 1.52 pm.
The burial ceremony of the woman, who was the pillar of strength behind the Premier’s leadership, was attended by close family members, friends, and state leaders.
The overcast skies added to the somber mood of the farewell.




It concluded with the sprinkling of rose water and the scattering of flowers following prayers and the talkin recitation led by the State Grand Imam Datuk Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi. The talkin ended at 2.21 pm.
Abang Johari accompanied by his family members, was later seen departing from the cemetery at 2.45pm.
Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Sarawak Energy and Petros) Datuk Ibrahim Baki and Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii were also present during the burial ceremony.
Juma’ani, 76, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Monday at 3.44 am (June 23), leaving behind a legacy of compassion and service to Sarawak’s communities, particularly in the areas of women’s welfare and empowerment.
She is remembered for her humility, kindness, and quiet dedication to charitable causes.
