KUCHING: Local technologists and professionals can rely on Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) to provide the necessary assistance to get their certification through the Synchro Primavera User Group (SPUG) event.
This is to help the local industries in digital transformation to deliver value-added business propositions.
To achieve this objective, SMA, in collaboration with Association of Professional Technicians and Technologists (APTT), conducted the inaugural SPUG Digital Construction Showcase 2022 at the Old Court House here recently.
According to SMA deputy chief scientist and deputy chief advisor Professor Dr Al-Khalid Othman, participants at the event shared their insightful thoughts and revelations about digital transformation to remain competitive and deliver value-added business propositions.
“It also displayed the current technological advancements with innovative applications to drive digital adoption in the engineering and construction industries in Sarawak,” he said.
The event also heightened the awareness of empowering capabilities and generated a positive response from the participants.
Meanwhile, PCSS Consultancy Sdn Bhd (PCSS) director of professional services, Andy Tiong Meng Jun, said digital transformation in the construction and engineering industries was crucial in order to remain competitive.
“Digital transformation is also crucial to the construction and engineering industries in order to deliver value-added business propositions,” he said.
Tiong cited the case of a fallen giant, Nokia, in the 90s whose chief executive officer admitted, “We didn’t do anything wrong but somehow, we lost,” and this was due to lack of initiative to embrace new technologies for constant change is the new norm.
“The motivation to change seemed to originate from the private sector and augmented by governmental blessing to incorporate digital content as part of the contract prerequisite,” he said.
Tiong also disclosed that PCSS had been pioneering technology in the region in the last 15 years with project management integrated systems and saw the immense potential of digital construction in improving the outcomes for the built environment.
“PCSS has acquired this competence since 2009 in its overseas work engagements and with its valuable exposure, experience and expertise gained, the company aspires to take a leading role in Sarawak Digital Transformation journey,” he said.
Based on the proven framework adopted by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Singapore, he said, PCSS intends to replicate the model in Sarawak with close collaborations and constructive engagements with statutory agencies, Institute of Engineers (IEM) Sarawak, academic institutions and private entities to provide high performance workforce, imbued with competent skill sets, acceleration of impactful applications of digitalisation and innovations.
