BAU: A teenage labourer and a barber were arrested for allegedly abusing drugs during an Ops Tapis Khas raid on Wednesday.
Bau Police Chief, Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman, said both suspects were taken into custody following a drug screening conducted at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) office at around 5:15 pm and 5:20 pm respectively.
Initial urine screening found the 17-year-old labourer positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Both suspects were detained under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug abuse.
“Meanwhile, the 25-year-old barber tested positive for ketamine,” he said in a statement.
He added that the teenager, who has no prior record, was referred to the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) for treatment and rehabilitation as directed by the NCID’s guidelines.
The older suspect – who had a prior record under the same section – was remanded at Bau Police Station for further investigation.
Haide said no drugs or other illegal items were seized during the operation.
The police will continue to intensify anti-drug operations under Ops Tapis Khas and urged the public to come forward with information related to drug activities by contacting the Bukit Aman NCID hotline at 012-208 7222 or the Sarawak NCID hotline at 017-592 9211.
