SERIAN: Three people had a narrow escape after their sport utility vehicle (SUV) skidded off the road and plunged into a 10-metre-deep ravine in Kampung Ensebang Kuari last night (Jun 7).

The accident happened at around 8.50pm when a Perodua Aruz carrying two men and a woman, veered off the road before crashing into the ravine.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Serian station were dispatched to the scene, about 39km away, following a distress call.

Upon arrival, they found that the two male occupants had managed to free themselves from the vehicle. However, the woman remained trapped inside the wreckage.

Rescuers used special equipment to extricate the woman before handing all three occupants over to paramedics for initial treatment.

It was understood that only two of them sustained injuries namely a 52-year-old female passenger and an 18-year-old male driver. They were later taken to hospital for further medical attention.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old male passenger escaped unharmed.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 10.10pm.
