KUCHING: A weekend night around the city took a different turn when two local teenagers were detained and their motorcycles seized during an ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ early Sunday morning (Feb 22).
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the suspects, aged between 17 and 20, allegedly committed offences under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
During the operation, police inspected 21 individuals and 17 vehicles, and issued 28 traffic summonses for various offences.
The enforcement, carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the district police headquarters (IPD) from 11pm to 3am, focused on Jalan Astana, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakob, Jalan Tun Salahuddin, Jalan Gersik and Masja.
The case was investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and further action was being taken.
Alexson advised the public to comply with traffic laws, refrain from illegal street racing activities and avoid modifying the original structure of their vehicles.
