KUANTAN: A 15-year-old boy is feared to have drowned while fishing in the Kuantan River near Jalan Indera Mahkota 15/7, Bandar Indera Mahkota here yesterday.

Acting Kuantan police chief, Superintendent Mohd Adli Mat Daud, said Mohamad Isyraf Danish Razmi was believed to have entered the river to retrieve a fishing line that had become stuck before disappearing from the view of his three friends.

He said the police received a report regarding the incident at about 7.30 pm and immediately activated a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation in collaboration with the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM).

“A Scene Control Post (SCP) has been set up at the location, and the SAR operation is currently ongoing. The operation involves one officer and 10 personnel from the Kuantan District Police Headquarters (IPD), along with two officers and eight personnel from JBPM,” he said in a statement today.

He also advised the public to avoid approaching the scene to ensure their safety and to allow rescue operations to proceed smoothly. – Bernama
