KUCHING: A teenage boy who repeatedly committed criminal offences has been ordered to undergo three years of rehabilitation at Sekolah Tunas Bakti by the Magistrates’ Court here on Thursday (March 6) for possessing a stolen motorcycle in November last year.
Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan issued the order after reviewing the 17-year-old offender’s character report from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) during proceedings.
The accused pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which carries a punishment of imprisonment for no less than six months and up to five years, along with a possible fine, upon conviction.
He was charged with possessing a stolen motorcycle belonging to a 54-year-old woman at the roadside of Jalan Stutong at approximately 11.36pm on Nov 30, 2024.
According to the case facts, on Nov 29, 2024, at around 6pm, the complainant had parked his mother’s motorcycle at a designated motorcycle parking area near McDonald’s in Tabuan Jaya.
The following day, Nov 30, 2024, at around 6am, after finishing work, he returned to the location and discovered that the motorcycle had been stolen.
A police report was subsequently lodged, leading to the arrest of the accused later that night at around 11.36pm on Jalan Stutong.
The complainant suffered an estimated loss of RM2,500.
Investigations confirmed that the accused was in possession of the stolen motorcycle, as verified through the engine chassis number registration.
It was also revealed that this was the accused’s second offence, and he had shown no behavioural improvement or remorse from his previous crime.
