LUNDU: A 19-year-old teenager suffered burn injuries after a fire broke out at a shop house and a nearby residential unit at Kampung Raso 2 here on Friday (Dec 26).
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said it received an emergency call at about 9.35am.
“The victim, identified as Ricco Lio Maldic Jonem, was reported to have sustained burn injuries and was taken to Bau Hospital by family members before firefighters arrived at the scene,” the department said.
Firefighters from the Lundu station were dispatched to the location, about 45km away, and arrived at around 10.10am.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a permanent shop house measuring about 40 by 40 feet had been damaged by about 30 per cent, along with a nearby residential house measuring about 100 by 50 feet that sustained about 15 per cent damage.
The fire had been successfully extinguished by villagers prior to the arrival of firefighters.
Firefighters subsequently carried out overhaul works using an auxiliary hose line to ensure there were no remaining sources of fire.
A total of seven personnel were involved in the operation, using one light fire rescue tender (LFRT), one emergency medical rescue services (EMRS) vehicle and a Hilux pick-up.
After confirming the area was safe, firefighters later returned to their station.
