LIMBANG: The body of a teenager, who went missing with his uncle while installing fishing nets in the river near Rumah Thaddeus Kampung Pulau Brunei on Saturday (Feb 15), was found today (Feb 17).
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the body of 16-year-old Joence Jordisone Jamit was discovered by members of the public at 9.20 am.
Rescuers were informed that the body was spotted in Sungai Medamit, near the location where the boy’s uncle was found on Sunday (Feb 16).
The team retrieved the body and transported it to the longhouse to be handed over to the police for further investigation.
Following this, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was called off.
On Saturday, Joence and his uncle, Atin Isik, 62, had gone to the river at 1 pm to install fishing nets.
Their family became concerned when they failed to return the next day. At 11.25 am, the body of Atin was found by the family on the riverbank.
Authorities were alerted, and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, about 70km away.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unknown.
