SIBU: A teenage motorcyclist has succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Sibu Hospital following a two-vehicle collision along Jalan Salim late last night (June 6).

The fatal crash happened at around 11.15 pm and involved a Lexus RX350 driven by a 25-year-old local man and a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle carrying two 19-year-old local men.

Sibu police chief ACP Azari Miskon said the accident occurred when the Lexus, travelling from Sibu town towards Salim, allegedly skidded out of control and veered into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with the oncoming motorcycle.

“The rider sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Sibu Hospital at 12.24 am.

“Meanwhile, the pillion rider was also injured and is currently undergoing further treatment at the hospital,” he said.

Azari added that the Lexus driver was found positive for methamphetamine during an initial urine screening.

Following the accident, the driver was arrested and will be remanded to facilitate further investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
