SEREMBAN: A 14-year-old boy was killed after falling into a 10-metre-deep sewer when the motorcycle he was riding pillion on with his brother crashed along Jalan Bunga Tanjung, Tampin, near here last night.

Tampin district police chief Supt Amiruddien Sariman said the boy was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Tampin Hospital at 11.30 pm, about one and a half hours after the incident, while his older brother sustained minor injuries.

“Further investigations found that the victim and his 17-year-old brother were travelling from Tampin town towards their friend’s house in Kuala Ina.

“Upon reaching the location, the Yamaha Y100 motorcycle ridden by his brother is believed to have skidded at a bend before hitting a sewer under construction on the left shoulder of the road, causing the victim to fall into the hole,” he said in a statement here today.

He said the teenager who fell into the sewer was retrieved by firemen and rushed to hospital. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Amiruddien said anyone with information related to the accident should contact the traffic police station at the Tampin district police headquarters or investigating officer Insp Sritharan at 06-4412502 to assist in the investigation. – BERNAMA
