MIRI: A teenager was killed in a road accident involving his motorcycle and a stationary lorry at Miri’s Airport Road on Saturday morning.
Police said the 18-year-old local young rider crashed into the back of the lorry which had stopped at a red traffic light at around 10:15 am.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:49 am.
The lorry driver, a 44-year-old local man, was unharmed.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed the incident, saying the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
He urged members of the public who witnessed the accident to come forward and assist police by contacting investigating officer Insp. Mohd Faizul Abdul Rahim at 014-8582582 or 085-430479, or by approaching the nearest police station.
Farhan also reminded road users to practise safe driving and obey traffic rules to avoid endangering others.
