Teenager sent to reform school for rape

KUCHING: The Sessions Court here sentenced a teenage boy to Henry Gurney School until he turns 21 for raping a teenage girl whom he had met on social media.

The 19-year-old pleaded guilty before Judge Musli Abdul Hamid to a charge under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code.

The charge provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 20 years and caning.

In addition, the court ordered the teenager to undergo two years of police supervision and counselling sessions after serving time.

He was charged with raping a teenage girl under the age of 16 in a village in Jalan Matang at around 10pm on Sept 6, 2024.

Based on the case facts, the accused and the victim have been acquaintances since 2022 through a social media platform.

Deputy public prosecutor Umi Syukriah Harun prosecuted the case while, the teenager was represented by counsel Federick Sabung.
