SELANGAU: Two teenage girls were injured after their car skidded and crashed into a road divider along Mile 38, Sibu-Bintulu Pan Borneo Highway yesterday (Dec 31).

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Selangau station were dispatched to the scene, about 19km away, after receiving a distress call at 5.04 pm.

Upon arrival, they found that the driver and her passenger, both 18-years-old, were already rescued from the vehicle by passers-by.

The girls – one with head injuries and the other with light injuries – received preliminary treatment on-site before being transported to the clinic for further care.

Firefighters only disconnected the car’s battery to prevent electrical hazards, and ensured that the area was safe before departing back to their station.

The rescue operation ended at 5.42 pm.
