KUCHING: Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS) is strengthening its push to integrate digital elements into technical and vocational education and training (TVET) as part of efforts to prepare a future-ready workforce.
TEGAS chairman Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the agency has evolved since its establishment in 2012 to support the transition from conventional technical training to digital-driven skills development.
“The transformation from technical vocational to digital is not a problem, it is part and parcel of the whole educational scheme that we are undertaking,” he said when met by reporters at the LCDA Sapphire Run 1.0 here today (Apr 5).
He said TEGAS continues to roll out programmes that combine technical, vocational and digital skills, particularly targeting youth participation.
Len added that the agency works closely with the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders, supported by more than 60 strategic partners from both government agencies and the private sector.
“These collaborations allow us to carry out programmes that can encourage young people to venture into start-ups,” he said.
He added that efforts are also underway to expand TEGAS Digital Village by introducing facilities such as accommodation for digital nomads, expected to be realised within the next two to three years.
Len said the initiative aligns with Sarawak’s broader push towards technological advancement and digital economy growth.
“The whole idea is to provide a platform for young people in digital, technical and vocational fields to become entrepreneurs, meaning they will be job creators, not job seekers,” he said.
He also added that TEGAS continues to collaborate with agencies such as the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) to drive digital development and support start-up ecosystems in the state.
