BAU: A teenager’s search for online fun spiralled into a humiliating extortion ordeal after a woman he met through a social app allegedly threatened to leak his nude photos and videos unless he paid thousands of ringgit.

The 18-year-old claimed he was left terrified after the suspect demanded RM3,800 and warned that the explicit content would be sent to his family members and contacts if he refused to comply.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the incident unfolded shortly after midnight yesterday (May 17) while the victim was at home.

“He had been browsing Facebook before downloading an application called Pazzy through a link on the platform.

“Then he was contacted on Telegram by an individual identifying herself as ‘Xiao Qi’, who asked whether he was interested in having sexual relations.

“The suspect, believed to be Chinese based on her accent, then allegedly convinced the victim to engage in a video call and instructed him to send nude photos and videos of himself performing obscene acts,” he said.

Soon after obtaining the material, the suspect allegedly began blackmailing the teenager and demanded RM3,800 to keep the content private.

Fearing the videos would be exposed, the victim transferred RM666 via a Touch ‘n Go QR payment into an account registered under the name “Zhou”.

Despite receiving the payment, the suspect allegedly continued demanding more money, claiming the amount was insufficient.

Mohd Haide said the victim refused to make further payments before lodging a police report at around 9.20 am.

The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
