MUKAH: Tellian assemblyman, Royston Valentine, has voiced his strong support for the proposal to establish a Special Needs Primary School in the division to better accommodate the growing number of students requiring specialised education.
He said the proposal is timely, as enrolment in the Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI) continues to increase each year.
“The rising number of PPKI students calls for dedicated facilities that can support their learning in a more holistic and structured way.
“This initiative deserves serious attention, as it will create a more suitable environment and strengthen support for their overall development,” he said at the MAGIC (Majlis Apresiasi Gemilang dan Inspirasi Cemerlang) PPKI event for Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Mukah, held at a hotel here on Tuesday.
Royston noted that SK Mukah currently has more than 90 PPKI students, from preschool to Year Six, underscoring the urgency of enhancing special education infrastructure in the district.
The MAGIC event celebrates PPKI students who have demonstrated progress in academics, character, co-curricular participation and self-care skills.
It also acknowledges the commitment of parents and the support of the wider community in advancing inclusive education at SK Mukah.
Meanwhile, Royston announced a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM10,000 to support SK Mukah’s PPKI activities for the coming year.
