KUCHING: The Kuching Gong De Temple Association received a RM30,000 grant from Stakan assemblyman Datuk Hamzah Ibrahim, recognising the temple’s long-standing contributions to the community.

Hamzah commended the organisers for the excellent arrangements and praised the association’s ongoing efforts, including the distribution of 56 food baskets to the needy.

He highlighted that supporting temples and other places of worship is simply “the way of life in Sarawak,” reflecting the state’s strong tradition of mutual respect and cultural diversity.

“We, Sarawakians, live for each other and want prosperity for all. Our continued interaction and togetherness are vital for Sarawak to grow and progress,” he said when speaking during the temple’s 8th Anniversary at Mike Temple Site here on Saturday.

Following the grant presentation, chairman of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Stakan Branch and honorary chairman of the temple, Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok, took the opportunity to commend the association for its dedication to preserving traditions, promoting peace and supporting the community through charity initiatives such as food aid and welfare assistance.

“Your work reflects the moral values shared by all religions and communities: kindness, respect, harmony and service to others.

“Sarawak is blessed with peace and stability, and we move forward as one people,” he said.

Sim also acknowledged the support of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, noting that initiatives like under the Unit For Other Religions (UNIFOR) ensure fair assistance to all religious organisations, allowing harmony and mutual respect to thrive.

The celebration concluded with both leaders congratulating the association and wishing it continued success in its mission to serve the community.

Also present at the event were Kuching Gong De Temple Association chairwoman Annie Yap and members of the committee.
