KUCHING: A total of 100 food aid sets were distributed to those in need during a food aid distribution programme organised by the Kuching Dao Jia Gong Buddhist Devotees Association here in conjunction with the temple’s 14th anniversary.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, who represented Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, said the programme reflected the true measure of a caring society.
“The warmth of a society is not measured by how wealthy it is, but by how it helps those who need help the most.
“This is not only assistance in daily life, but also an affirmation of care from society, so that those in need feel they have not been forgotten,” he said during his speech.

Wee said the 100 food aid sets, though limited in number, carried the organisers’ sincere intentions and blessings.
“Although only 100 sets were distributed today, every one of them carries sincere intentions and heartfelt blessings.
“Society will always have people who care for you and people who are concerned about you,” he added.
He also commended the association for continuing to promote traditional culture and religious values over the past 14 years while remaining active in charitable and community welfare work.
“This kind of perseverance and dedication is truly admirable.
“The spirit of looking out for one another and standing together is one of the most precious values in Sarawak’s multicultural society,” he said.
Earlier, temple chairman Foo Jing Teck said the programme was held in conjunction with Guan Yin’s birthday, with the food aid intended for groups such as persons with disabilities, single mothers and the poor.
He said the association had always sought to ensure that its assistance reached members of the community who needed it most.
Also present were political secretary to the Premier Kho Teck Wan, Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How and other invited guests.
