KUCHING: Temporary measures were carried out at Stakan Bridge following reports of road sinking in the area.
Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai said MPP acted promptly following public complaints received on May 2 through various channels.
MPP engaged its term contractor to implement immediate temporary safety measures for road users.
“Last Friday, MPP’s internal team was deployed to inspect the site and evaluate the condition. Warning notices were issued to alert the public about scheduled repair works the next day (Saturday),” he said in a statement.
On Saturday, from 10.30am to 6pm, MPP carried out the temporary works, led by MPP engineer Mohd Hazwan Othman, supervised by officer Uulia Ulanda Rumpang, and supported by six personnel managing traffic due to the area’s heavy traffic flow.
The term contractor also deployed a nine-person team to complete the task within the day.
The repair scope included laying base premix, installing five steel plates, and applying an additional 50mm thick premix layer on the surface.
Tan thanked both the MPP team and the contractor for their swift action and successful completion of the temporary repairs.
He stressed that the work was conducted entirely under MPP’s supervision to prioritise public safety and urged heavy vehicles to use alternative routes to prevent further road damage.
