MIRI: A weekend adventure turned into a rescue operation when 10 hikers were saved from distress within Lambir National Park on Sunday (Jul 13).

The group’s outing took a sudden turn after several members suffered breathing difficulties and leg cramps while navigating the trail.

A call for help was made at around 4.10 pm and firefighters from Miri station were dispatched to the scene, about 35km away.

Firefighters, reinforced by five park rangers, conducted a search and rescue (SAR) operation and managed to locate the hikers just 900 metres from the trailhead.

All of them were later escorted back to the starting point and medical assessment was carried out to ensure that they are indeed safe.

The operation wrapped up at 6.51 pm.
