KUCHING: Amid growing speculation over an upcoming Cabinet reshuffle, political analyst, Professor Dr Novel Lyndon, predicts that the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is likely to retain control of the two ministerial posts currently left vacant.
However, he noted that the situation could take an unexpected turn following the recent application by Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz to join PKR.
“The development surrounding Tengku Zafrul’s bid to join PKR opens up two major possibilities in the Cabinet reshuffle.
“First, there could be a reshuffling of ministerial portfolios between PKR and UMNO.
“Second, there is a chance that Khairy Jamaluddin, a former minister and ex-UMNO member, might be brought in, potentially as a senator, to appeal to the younger demographic,” he told Sarawak Tribune today when asked about the cabinet reshuffle speculation.
Dr Novel added that a reshuffle seemed inevitable following the resignation of two PKR ministers, namely Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
“Negotiations between PKR and UMNO are expected to take place to determine the appointments.
“However, based on the initial understanding established during the formation of the unity government, PKR is strongly positioned to retain its ministerial influence,” he said.
