SIBU: As a community organisation, Teochew Association Sibu (TAS) has pledged to continue serving as a vital bridge between the government and society, in the years ahead.
TAS chairman, Kapitan Su Ngio Kee assured that TAS will continue fulfilling this role by ensuring that government policies reach every corner of the community while also conveying the voices of the people back to the government.
“Through this two-way dialogue, we can strengthen governance, promote harmony, and enrich our cultural life,” he said at TAS’ Chinese New Year (CNY) festive greeting programme held at its premises here on Friday.
The programme was hosted in honour of the festive greeting made by Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Central chairman, Cr Kevin Lau Kor Jie.
Su said TAS is deeply honoured by the presence of the two important leaders of Sibu SUPP who, despite their demanding responsibilities, have graciously come to the association to extend their festive greetings.
He stressed that this gesture reflects not only their party’s commitment to serving the people, but also their respect for the association’s cultural traditions and heritage.
He said their visit will be remembered as a significant milestone in the history of the association.
Their visit, he added, embodies unity and shared purpose between their party and community organisations so as to work hand in hand for further developments.
“I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support in fostering community development and preserving cultural heritage.
“Your encouragement has brought warmth and inspiration to the association and its members, and we hold your contributions in the highest regard.
“In Chinese tradition, the lunar new year of the horse symbolises progress, loyalty, and pioneering spirit. The Year of the Horse heralds a time of vigour and prosperity when society advances with energy and industries flourish.
“May our beloved hometown – Sibu enjoys continual progress, heading towards a brighter tomorrow,” Su enthused.
Also present was TAS honorary adviser, Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee.
