KUALA NERUS, Terengganu: Terengganu FC (TFC) acting head coach, Tengku Hazman Raja Hassan, admitted to being disappointed with his team’s performance in the Super League match against Kuala Lumpur City FC (KL City FC) at Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium (SSMZA) on Friday night.
The Kelantan-born coach said the players were still repeating the same mistakes by conceding easy goals, allowing their opponents to gain a narrow 1-0 victory.
He said the defeat caused the Turtles to lose three valuable points at home, thus affecting their chances of improving their position at the top of the league.
“I have told the players that if we play against an experienced and strong team like KL City FC, we cannot make easy mistakes because it will result in us being punished with a goal.
“We defended well before that. But making the same mistake over and over again caused us to lose three points in the match,” he said after the Super League match against KL City FC.
Tengku Hazman, however, said his team was still on the right track to finish this season in the top five of the league as targeted at the beginning of the year.
Meanwhile, the City Boys coach, Risto Vidakovic, said that despite the narrow win, he was satisfied with the fighting spirit shown by his men.
According to him, the victory allowed KL City FC to continue competing with Selangor FC for the Super League runner-up spot this season.
“The three points are very important to us. If we lose today, maybe our chances to fight for a second place would be much lower.
“So I think our players know that as we approach the end of the season, every game is important. It might be a big stress for everybody. But I think our players did a good job tonight. It’s not easy to play a beautiful game everytime,” he said.
Last night’s victory allowed KL City FC to move up to second spot in the league with 36 points while TFC remained in fifth position with 28 points. – BERNAMA
