KUCHING: The Tabung Haji Board (TH) today handed over its 2024 business zakat contribution amounting to RM1,927,359.46 to the Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS) under the Sarawak Islamic Council (Majlis Agama Islam Sarawak).
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, said the contribution represents the business zakat from the board, which will be distributed by the MIS to the asnaf (eligible zakat recipients) across the State.
“I hope more asnaf in Sarawak will benefit from the contribution, which we have officially presented to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during our courtesy call this morning,” he said.
He said this to reporters during the World Zakat and Waqf Forum (WZWF) 14th Annual Meeting & International Conference at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre (HEEC) today.
The contribution was presented by Na’im on behalf of the board, to MIS President, Datuk Misnu Taha, witnessed by the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg prior to the event.
He added that, in addition to the zakat contribution, RM1.2 million has also been allocated for corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes under the wakalah zakat fund.
“From this RM1.2 million allocation, part has been given to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) to support asnaf students there, while another portion is used for housing construction.
“I believe around eight asnaf families have benefited from this housing assistance scheme in Sarawak and the remaining amount is used for community purposes, including cash assistance and other forms of aid for asnaf and related groups,” he added.
Also present were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department of Sarawak (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Hall, and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Deputy Community Wellbeing Development Minister, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam; Sarawak Mufti, Datuk Kipli Yassin; World Zakat and Waqf Forum (WZWF) Secretary-General, Mohd Ghazali Md Noor; and TBS General Manager, Datuk Abang Mohd Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie.
