KUCHING: The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and Tengku Ampuan Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, are in the city for a four-day official visit to Sarawak beginning today.
The former king and queen of Malaysia arrived at the VVIP Terminal of Kuching International Airport (KIA) at 12:10 pm, where they were received by the Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Also present to welcome the royal couple were Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; State Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam; and other distinguished guests.
Following a brief doa selamat (prayer for well-being) ceremony at the airport, Their Royal Highnesses proceeded to Masjid Darul Barakah in Taman Satria Jaya, BDC, where they performed Friday prayers with the local congregation.
They are scheduled to grace the Sarawak-Pahang Friendship Night in the evening at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex.
Tomorrow (Saturday), Their Royal Highnesses will visit Kampung Kanchong Baru in Gedong to observe weaving activities at Seri Gedong Songket.
Al-Sultan Abdullah will later visit the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, while Tunku Azizah is scheduled to tour the Sri Kenyalang Songket Complex at Puncak Borneo Prison.
Tomorrow night, they are expected to attend the opening of the Sarawak Drum Festival 2025 at the Kuching Waterfront, where they will witness a musical fountain show and fireworks display.
On Sunday, Their Royal Highnesses will visit the Sarawak Cultural Village in the morning before attending the closing of the Sarawak Regatta 2025 and the Borneo Craft Festival 2025 in the afternoon.
The Sultan and Tengku Ampuan Pahang are scheduled to depart for Pahang Darul Makmur on Monday via KIA to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Base in Kuantan, Pahang.
