SIBU: TheStage has once again proven its role as the premier platform for nurturing local creative talent with the successful staging of its seventh edition, TheStage 7.0, at the Sibu Indoor Stadium here last night (Sept 14).

Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng Jin Ek said since its introduction in 2022, TheStage has not only become a performance venue, but has also become a catalyst for the growth of the creative industry ecosystem in Sibu.

“TheStage is not just a performance stage – it drives the entire creative industry, from event planning, video production, lighting, sound systems to stage design,” he said at the the event’s opening ceremony.

Chieng said that more than 95 per cent of the workforce for the organising of TheStage 7.0 consists of local youths, including the technical, performance, design and music arrangement teams, thus proving the great potential that exists among the youth in the area.

Taking the theme “This Stage Belongs to Us”, this event maintains TheStage’s main principle – “from the youth, for the youth” – by providing space for the younger generation to perform, stand out and build confidence in the creative arts.

“We believe that if given the opportunity and platform, the youth of Sibu are also capable of creating their own brilliance,” he enthused.

He added that TheStage now plays an important role as a talent development space as well as a bridge connecting local artists with the outside world, towards the formation of a more professional and international-class industry.

Since its inception, TheStage has featured many famous artists as guests, including Jeryl Lee Pei Ling, Eric Lay, Tan Yin Ern, Jeff from Singapore, Firdhaus and Dior, who also inspired local participants.

The event was also graced by the presence of famous Sarawak-born singer, Priscilla Abby, known as the “Princess of EDM (Electronic Dance Music) Malaysia”, as the special guest artist.
