LAWAS: The 10th edition of the Project of Dreams Realized (Pro-DR) education and career roadshow was officially launched in Lawas, marking the start of a month-long journey across 14 destinations throughout Sarawak.
The initiative, spearheaded by Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS), aims to strengthen human capital development among students and youth across the state, particularly in rural areas.
The launch event was officiated by Lawas Member of Parliament, Datuk Henry Sum Agong, at Hotel Seri Malaysia Lawas, where hundreds of students, school leavers, and residents gathered to explore education and career pathways, Wednesday.
“Pro-DR is more than just a roadshow; it is a platform that opens doors for our youth to realise their potential and prepare for the future.
“Sarawak’s recognition as a high-income state by the World Bank means we must now produce a highly skilled workforce to sustain this growth,” Henry said.
The Pro-DR programme, organised annually since 2012, brings together over 40 higher learning institutions, funding agencies, and government bodies to share crucial information on further education, skills training, and financial assistance.
The roadshow will visit locations including Limbang, Long Lama, Mukah, Saratok, and Lundu before concluding in late August.
Henry also noted the importance of education in shaping the state’s future.

“All layers of society deserve access to quality education, regardless of background.
“Job opportunities are already available in sectors like TVET and digital, but we still face a shortage of skilled local manpower.”
Additionally, he pointed to five key industries where employment opportunities are growing: oil and gas, digital economy, TVET, tourism, and modern agriculture.
“Through mega projects like the Sarawak Methanol Project in Bintulu, and the Petroleum Hub in Lawas, we are seeing increasing demand for skilled roles in engineering, logistics, and operations,” he said.
A major highlight of the Lawas launch was the opening of the Think & Tinker (T&T) Mini Lab at SMK Lawas.
Additionally, Henry said the lab, a TEGAS initiative, serves as a multipurpose innovation space for students to engage in digital exploration and develop creative projects.
“It’s not just about access to technology, but cultivating a mindset of innovation among our youth.
Henry concluded by urging students and parents alike to seize the opportunities available.
“Financial issues should no longer be a barrier as institutions like Yayasan Sarawak, MARA, and PTPTN are ready to assist,” he said.
“What’s needed now is your commitment to pursue your dreams.”
